2016 Information

** 2016 Spanish Town Mardi Gras Ball Security Measures **

The BR River Center has initiated some new security measures which will be effective for the 2016 ball and decorating party.

Decorating party times will be from 9:00 AM until 4:30 PM.

Entrance to the hall will be restricted to the front entrance on River Road. There will be NO parking in front of the River Center on River Road. You can pull your car up to unload, but someone must drive it to the parking lots immediately – no car can be left unattended, much like the airport unloading. Ice chests, bags, purses, boxes, etc. will be searched before you enter the hall. Ice chests sizes are limited to 48 quarts or less – remember no styrofoam. There will be absolutely NO access from the loading area. If you park in parking areas B1 or B2, you MUST go up the elevator and walk to the front entrance. EVERYONE must clear the hall by 4:30PM – NO exceptions.

Hall access for the ball will start at 7:00 PM.

You can only enter from the River Road front entrance or from the East Plaza entrance upstairs. If you have handicapped individuals or are dropping off people from your group, you must drop them off at the front entrance on River Road, then go park you car. If you park in parking areas B1 or B2, you MUST take the elevator to the East Plaza and enter there or walk around the concourse, down the stairs to the River Road entrance. You cannot walk to the loading area from these parking garages as they have been gated off. If you use the parking garages, the walk thru will put you in the East Plaza. At both entrances your purses, bags, and ice chests will be searched, so please be prepared when you get to the search tables, so we can keep them moving at a good pace. If you go outside of the hall, you will be searched again upon re-entry.

These measures are for everyone’s safety and we expect you to comply with the River Center
staff’s directives.

Entrance to the Hall:  You can enter the Ball from the main entrance on River Road and from the garage areas.  There will be absolutely NO access from the loading area. If you park in parking areas B1 or B2, you MUST go up the elevator and walk to the front entrance.

Table Decorating:  You can decorate your tables before the ball; the hall will open on January 23, 2016 at 9:30 AM and will close at promptly 4:30 PM - No exceptions.  There will be absolutely NO access from the loading area. If you park in parking areas B1 or B2, you MUST go up the elevator and walk to the front entrance.  There will be NO parking in front of the River Center on River Road. You can pull your car up to unload, but someone must drive it to the parking lots immediately – no car can be left unattended, much like the airport unloading.

The tables are 6 feet in diameter (round).  You may bring your ice chest at the time of decorating and store them underneath the table, no Styrofoam or cardboard ice chests allowed.  Ice chests sizes are limited to 48 quarts or less.  Please keep in mind there will be no utilities (electricity) available for decorations on your table, plan accordingly.  No stapling into the tables or table clothes.  You will not be allowed to have open flames or helium balloons.  Also keep in mind that you can't use anything that would pose a fire or safety hazard, get creative.

Re-admittance and Smoking:  There will be re-admittance to the Ball, however there is a No Drinking Ordinance in the city which will be enforced, no drinks will be allowed outside.  If you go outside of the hall, you will be searched again upon re-entry.

Parking:  River Center East and West parking garages will be open to the public for a fee.  To reach the East Garage head west on Government St. Turn right on St Louis. You will then turn right into the East Garage.  The West Garage is reached by heading west on North Blvd and turning left onto St Louis. Proceed toward Government St turning right into the garage.

This is all necessary because of the change on the streets and dividers that have been placed on St Louis St. There are walkways in both garages that will put you at the Plaza entrance to the River Center.

Street parking is also available around Beauregard Town.

B1 and B2 Parking Pass:  Both are in the Parish Government Garage.

You enter B1 off of St. Louis Street. The entrance is located between the Governmental Building and the Library. This can be reached from either North Blvd. or Government St.  The preferred route to B1 is from North Blvd.

The B2 garage is entered from Government St. at St. Phillip. This is one block west of St. Louis. There is a light at St, Philip and a right turn lane. You turn right between the two buildings and follow your way back to the garage.

If you park in parking areas B1 or B2, you MUST take the elevator to the East Plaza and enter there or walk around the concourse, down the stairs to the River Road entrance. You cannot walk to the loading area from these parking garages as they have been gated off. If you use the parking garages, the walk thru will put you in the East Plaza..
