    • The following was sent to the SPLL Board from the Prancing Babycakes (a marching group thet has been a mainstay in the parade for many years) and the board felt it was worth posting on our website.

The Spanish Town Parade is one day out of the year where Baton Rouge unbuttons its gingham dress shirt, puts on a pink boa, and ignores the rules of decorum and convention that otherwise keeps the Red Stick on its axis.

Amid a downpour of glitter and beads, it is only a few hours where one has the opportunity to celebrate the mutual pleasures of the flesh and commiserate over the mutual pain of politics in a safe and respectful environment.

Krewes of the Spanish Town Parade deploy a wicked sense of humor and unparalleled smarts to be entertainingly taboo without degrading anyone based on gender, race, sexual preference, or religion. It's the one place where the dividing lines of men v. women, North BR v. South BR, liberal v. conservative don't necessarily fade so much momentarily perforate, so that by the end of the parade we all dance together regardless of what part of town (or the political spectrum) we come from. It is this outcome-- the communal joy and a shared laugh among adults -- that the members of Spanish Town Parade both seek for themselves and hope to give to others. This is what the Spanish Town Parade is about.

If you agree with this statement please help us preserve the spirit of the Spanish Town Parade by emailing this to your Krewe members, posting it on your Facebook page or website, and/or sharing it with parade-goers. This way we can let revelers of all backgrounds know Spanish Town is for them. . . as long as they don't mind pink panties and free condoms flying at their face.
